Spinning Top

This Christmas my friend and I visited a tree farm. It was the first time I ever picked a tree that was not from the street or home depot. I know I killed a tree for Christmas, but sometimes I just get all swept up in things and enjoyed walking on the snow, drinking hot cider and eating a toasted marshmallow. So once the tree was chosen the farmer cut off about 2 inches from the bottom and I had a small stump. I looked at it for a couple of days and wanted to print it, but into what?

I finally took a proof of the wood stump and looked at it for a few more days, coffee is oh so helpful to this process. . . sip and look, sip and look. At first it only looked like saturn to me with a ring around the planet, but I turned it and saw a top so I ran with it.

I added colored pencil for the table top and the string and had a spinning top. It was given to friends and family this holiday season. All the best in 2010!
